The series is called Complexity of the Basics. <div><br /></div><div>The basics of art are more complex than those truly know. When a piece of art is made, it goes through plenty of stages before it is complete. For example, the few stages a painting undergoes is the under-drawing, blocking out shapes, then the painting layers. It's like looking at an X-Ray over a person's body, you see everything that makes them into the person they are. Your make an under-drawing to sketch out what your piece will look like. Then you block out your shapes for proportion purposes and placements. Then once you are satisfied with placements of your objects you begin to break down the shapes and layer upon them to make your final piece. This is the basic process of making a piece, especially in Fine Art. </div><div><br /></div><div>This new series takes this same concept and exposes it all out in one piece. These pieces all showcase some "tastefully" nude models I made while exposing their building stages. The tears reveal the shapes that make up the body. The glass windows act as an X-Ray machine and show my under-drawing of the figure. As you see the basics can be a bit complex when broken down. That is what this series will portray. So without further adieu I present to you <b>"Complexity of the Basics" </b></div>Mark Stewarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16589472026512466342noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1381854023225026439.post-47215074967836218192011-01-14T19:15:00.001-08:002011-01-14T20:02:07.955-08:00#MASStaurdays<div><br />Hey whats going on everyone. Suprisingly I been getting comments from people to update this thing with some posts. So you asked for it and I will provide. Hope everyones holidays were all good and enjoyable. But yes back to the ART. Sooo I have been doing a lot of figure sketching and close-up, detailed sketches of celebrities as you all may have already seen. I think I will be a bit more consistent with it now though that I am getting a lot of feedback from it all. So help me pick a day where I will update you all with some figure studies and whatever else treats I want to pull out of my sketchbook.<div><br /></div><div>hmmmm</div><div><br /></div><div>Im thinking Saturday. So I am going to try to keep it very consistent and make this a serious thing. This will help me keep my fluidity going and I wont forget my roots. So <b>every Saturday</b> look out for some figure studies by me and I may even drop a few special things from my sketchbook. <b><span class="Apple-style-span" >MAS Saturdays</span></b> yall</div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx2GqNpeMGok_yFggLTJNDo-qQp0E6aXuUrJzVDB3Ijgl4ixNEYw57lI7g3v58KLeuZoZxQVOVn2UaBVItoOeH7tdHskvExmRw8yOK6ybWlHALr4IN_wJEJktZ0kVwKIJigDJ-TU9XxGlX/s1600/IMG00214-20101227-0406.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx2GqNpeMGok_yFggLTJNDo-qQp0E6aXuUrJzVDB3Ijgl4ixNEYw57lI7g3v58KLeuZoZxQVOVn2UaBVItoOeH7tdHskvExmRw8yOK6ybWlHALr4IN_wJEJktZ0kVwKIJigDJ-TU9XxGlX/s400/IMG00214-20101227-0406.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5555288059966788722" /></a><br /><div><br /></div><div>#staytuned</div>Mark Stewarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16589472026512466342noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1381854023225026439.post-39721442262910719792010-11-30T15:31:00.000-08:002010-11-30T15:41:21.439-08:001st Self-Portrait Digital Painting<div>Got my new computer now and I'm back to work with filling orders, sending invoices, and internship work. I figured since I was having a little creativity block, that I would sketch a bit. I ALWAYS sketch when I'm having a block, it helps get my hand moving and creativity flowing. You should see my sketchbook. However, today I figured I do some sketching on the computer, seeing that I was already on it. I started to sketch an image I took of myself off of my phone. The sketch led to a caricature, which led back to being a fine art study, then to a painting, into a piece!<div><br /></div><div>Here's my creative process below. Oh and to add... I believe this is my 1st digital self-portrait painting. Only took me an hour. I only changed the mode on my brush once ("Multiply") for very minor touch-ups, the rest is all under the "Normal" brush mode</div></div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcXiidIgvWlgOG0X4SnqD2la1pZ10qc0yusgmufa1dQbZP09aCCXFM9jLOrlyIQbJQd2Ee0WFsIWUA2_FmJ_MrekfT21sS32NsIjYwcWGqQN11Ac5RXQap53FoOFZGlr80Tuvvx0SOkbtc/s1600/selfportrait.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 319px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcXiidIgvWlgOG0X4SnqD2la1pZ10qc0yusgmufa1dQbZP09aCCXFM9jLOrlyIQbJQd2Ee0WFsIWUA2_FmJ_MrekfT21sS32NsIjYwcWGqQN11Ac5RXQap53FoOFZGlr80Tuvvx0SOkbtc/s400/selfportrait.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545491476342796306" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1KFcDEa1QEVKZEBEIMae8wTt_7b1r8iP6a-L1SqzI8sdSJ1kvFxn_cNiEopxrBmkJf3pnwt-Jzz19fvn22Ksf9BLbaEHx7F1e4E8k3rxNQ1634G3PVShxNkmC85FHL1fHGEnKkYafVATv/s1600/self+portrait5.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1KFcDEa1QEVKZEBEIMae8wTt_7b1r8iP6a-L1SqzI8sdSJ1kvFxn_cNiEopxrBmkJf3pnwt-Jzz19fvn22Ksf9BLbaEHx7F1e4E8k3rxNQ1634G3PVShxNkmC85FHL1fHGEnKkYafVATv/s400/self+portrait5.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545491373189410370" /></a>Mark Stewarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16589472026512466342noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1381854023225026439.post-55150058951181590562010-09-02T16:39:00.000-07:002010-09-02T16:49:06.895-07:00THIS FCNY LOOKS INCREDIBLE<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieDykql894iKkhosj6jZUAU9sDN9jsmB01os8SDekaHA7PPNljUQFV1brEe_uv64sWmjX1pefZcX-sGfx_KrwZ3MT3kjVTUPTJKVvr9SxNtV8IlJXxV3d7uC_jRqFgQvYUYxjANzkYmNYt/s1600/The+New+Flight+Club+%E2%80%93+812+Broadway.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 278px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieDykql894iKkhosj6jZUAU9sDN9jsmB01os8SDekaHA7PPNljUQFV1brEe_uv64sWmjX1pefZcX-sGfx_KrwZ3MT3kjVTUPTJKVvr9SxNtV8IlJXxV3d7uC_jRqFgQvYUYxjANzkYmNYt/s400/The+New+Flight+Club+%E2%80%93+812+Broadway.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5512467246209429986" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0klbub_FApuAi8O3yEsWBq6Z03F35lsXi1a1jqa2VRkbEjr4Rhj_Jy6jGZIYhyHDrprK7DkPc2R89D1mie5ZkRESLwTtGZaLZGpGI7wi_EejcrbQ1oUvZbyHaoJXHwSRf-k7LNE5EEoro/s1600/colisiem.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 278px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0klbub_FApuAi8O3yEsWBq6Z03F35lsXi1a1jqa2VRkbEjr4Rhj_Jy6jGZIYhyHDrprK7DkPc2R89D1mie5ZkRESLwTtGZaLZGpGI7wi_EejcrbQ1oUvZbyHaoJXHwSRf-k7LNE5EEoro/s400/colisiem.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5512465992846662706" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGDdolsFdP8eNNcebepR7iDazI7Ic5NFvSJdeh6hLU5EekZGROPnKe_cIpHw3jNp_papJ3YVYIV7JA2fAiZWW2J8ZG3YI4_jb0ZKpU4Z9v3hfN2x6si4MSvdJaNDU7an9oPMtvsc4hny1n/s1600/colisiem-1.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 278px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGDdolsFdP8eNNcebepR7iDazI7Ic5NFvSJdeh6hLU5EekZGROPnKe_cIpHw3jNp_papJ3YVYIV7JA2fAiZWW2J8ZG3YI4_jb0ZKpU4Z9v3hfN2x6si4MSvdJaNDU7an9oPMtvsc4hny1n/s400/colisiem-1.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5512465987277558114" /></a><br />Yo this is the newest addition of Flight Club up in NY... on 812 Broadway. I admit it. I think about shoes probably as much as what studies say men think about sex:<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 18px; "><h2 style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-weight: normal; font-size: 18px; ">Sex on the <a href="http://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/neuroscience" title="Psychology Today looks at Neuroscience" class="pt-basics-link" style="color: black; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-color: rgb(153, 153, 153); ">Brain</a></h2><p>The idea that men think about sex every seven seconds, like the claim that we only use 10 percent of our brains, is often repeated but rarely sourced. The number doesn't bear up against scrutiny. According to the<em>Kinsey Report (Sexual Behavior in the Human Male)</em>, 54 percent of men think about sex every day or several times a day, 43 percent a few times a week or a few times a month, and 4 percent less than once a month. Even though the <em>Kinsey Report</em> relies on men to self-report on how often they think about sex, it's still eye opening to find that just under half of men aren't even thinking about sex once a day. Clearly, the seven-second rule may be a tad hyperbolic.</p><p>^^^quoted from <i><a href="http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200706/five-shocking-stats-about-men-and-sex">Psychology Today</a>^^^ </i></p><p>Yea that much. I go on sneaker blogs, follow numerous sneaker news accounts on Twitter, have a sneaker release date app on my Blackberry, and have a list of Shoes to Get that has grown over the years. Its an obsession! In some of my previous art you can see the influence of shoes in a majority of the pieces. If they aren't literally added into a piece, I may use a certain colorway to determine my color palette for a piece. It has gotten to the point before where my peers would expect some type of sneaker-related piece from me, especially in high school. So from then on I took a break from have kicks in my art because Im a well-rounded artist. I don't stick to one thing. I have numerous target markets I can connect to. Although I did use colorways to help my color palette. </p><p>Im at the point in my life now where I appreciate the joy and benefit of doing series. I have numerous series ideas in my head and my sketchbooks are getting filled up. On another note, what better series to start off with than my roots, sneakers. I am making this series to touch base with my Sneakerhead community. Each piece I do in this series will relate to the sneakers nickname. For example Powder Blue Jordan 9s= a baby holding the 9s upside down with powder spilling out of the shoe onto the floor......... (that's actaullay not a bad idea... lemme write that down) Some colorways of shoes get nicknamed by us, the consumer and those are my models. This series will consume of Jordans and Nikes (the brands that typically get named). Alot of the collaborations are very simplistic and easily done. A collaboration should be a fusion of two styles to create a piece of work. With a lot of the collaborations with GShock it reveals to me that some of these brands don't have a particular style that stands out from the rest. Hmm I love collaborations that really PUSH the limit and possibilities. Ones that really made me look into the people's previous work. This collab GShock did with Starstyling def made me do some research on this Co.!!!! Heres what Highsnobiety.com had to say:</span></p><p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">It all started with collaborations with brands such as A Bathing Ape and in recent years every other brand seems to be working with the Casio G-Shock brand on a special make-up of the iconic digital watches. In some cases we still get surprised, in others it is not more than a simple print on the watch strap and one does not really understand what the purpose behind the collaboration actually was. As with all things, if it works, it will eventually get exploited. I think one can safely say that with the </span><a href="http://g-shock.com/" mce_href="http://g-shock.com/" target="_blank"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">G-Shock</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;"> collabo game we have arrived at a point where it is getting a little boring.</span></p><p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">Today we had the chance to get a behind the scenes look at an upcoming collaboration with Berlin based fashion brand</span><a href="http://www.starstyling.net/" mce_href="http://www.starstyling.net/" target="_blank"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">Starstyling</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;"> and they actually show, that it can also be done differently. Watching the designers in the atelier work on the over 20 custom watches that will be released in the coming weeks was a great experience. Just like with everything Starstyling, expext the unexpected. Wooden beads, colorful metal bangles, fur and a lot more is being used and suddenly you see that it is all about choosing the right collaborator. Starstyling is very edgy and certainly not for everybody, but that is a good thing. The watches that you see in this behind the scenes look will be be used in the Starstyling fashion show during Berlin fashion week beginning of July and 20 of them will go on sale as a pack, including matching jewelry and a matching t-shirt. They will all be one-off pieces. Some sets will also go on a tour for display. Watch out for more information on the project soon.</span></p><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">via </span><a href="http://www.highsnobiety.com/news/2010/06/17/g-shock-x-starstyling-behind-the-scenes/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">HighSnobiety</span></a></div></span><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitAmCzUKUdcHyKiqVCpEkQU9dkRnsPWd34pjQ-72ouAp2a5IAvzcjl9A0IQDjwKOU6ADyFKB-FEvKZOER1Wzq0CVm5yZTCulak0T6Wc8jA9ufgIxKpMpyQLozIg_A8OACf4k1x-ATJ80bK/s1600/gshock-starstyling-behind-the-scenes-10.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitAmCzUKUdcHyKiqVCpEkQU9dkRnsPWd34pjQ-72ouAp2a5IAvzcjl9A0IQDjwKOU6ADyFKB-FEvKZOER1Wzq0CVm5yZTCulak0T6Wc8jA9ufgIxKpMpyQLozIg_A8OACf4k1x-ATJ80bK/s400/gshock-starstyling-behind-the-scenes-10.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483989835977551906" /></a>^^ my favorite one^^<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimWUnZjFellEkosFImi3K0TfE9l6B1jtm6S7fvyfer5zvrAnRrz7zzTGOFKNSMQRaTlqG5o3pOf7zkHeucANNVE4IUzoCNm_a-EI0a3qxTkH6pzMjnJaM2FuLzNm7gWoRFfUCeqKnmin7c/s1600/gshock-starstyling-behind-the-scenes-6.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 297px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimWUnZjFellEkosFImi3K0TfE9l6B1jtm6S7fvyfer5zvrAnRrz7zzTGOFKNSMQRaTlqG5o3pOf7zkHeucANNVE4IUzoCNm_a-EI0a3qxTkH6pzMjnJaM2FuLzNm7gWoRFfUCeqKnmin7c/s400/gshock-starstyling-behind-the-scenes-6.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483989832811545378" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-ulBmtLQE9e7Vm1JqPUjGIXBdwiSWWOw5J9kHVoex0R2zKgSj25ZLuFHfexYqXL9fhAOhrlnQIQsw_RJU1iQsXNfRbQGhtaevjh3M_jbS265iXY4n_fK98wpFKcrjmCm9jKtIPvcrQf6b/s1600/gshock-starstyling-behind-the-scenes-14.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 298px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-ulBmtLQE9e7Vm1JqPUjGIXBdwiSWWOw5J9kHVoex0R2zKgSj25ZLuFHfexYqXL9fhAOhrlnQIQsw_RJU1iQsXNfRbQGhtaevjh3M_jbS265iXY4n_fK98wpFKcrjmCm9jKtIPvcrQf6b/s400/gshock-starstyling-behind-the-scenes-14.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483989828716899826" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6FJDAl3iYoPmTt63eSlbjWihJUPULJcQHYY084wGJu4XCHNhN5c6VE4sbI98JPuf1MeBorh-qK68dWD0rf7utktSKAYQn8mFRmF5RuZWr_vQqCBox78eCYxJekU7H_M3nkQBRp_RoDwTD/s1600/gshock-starstyling-behind-the-scenes-2.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6FJDAl3iYoPmTt63eSlbjWihJUPULJcQHYY084wGJu4XCHNhN5c6VE4sbI98JPuf1MeBorh-qK68dWD0rf7utktSKAYQn8mFRmF5RuZWr_vQqCBox78eCYxJekU7H_M3nkQBRp_RoDwTD/s400/gshock-starstyling-behind-the-scenes-2.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483989818628727138" /></a>Mark Stewarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16589472026512466342noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1381854023225026439.post-18231380081973342242010-06-01T22:27:00.000-07:002010-06-01T22:42:38.053-07:00We have a special guest on our flight... so for your viewing pleasure sit back & clickHug Hearts aka my girl Lisabutt.... like what can I say about her??!! Move over Dave White, there's another sneaker freaker on the horizon. Meet Daymon Greulich, a Melbourne-based artist who specializes in cartoons and character design. Having worked at Disney Studios, he has now opted for the more unpredictable life of a freelancer. Just as a sneakerhead praises their favorite or rare shoes, analyzing all the special details, these artist do the same when depicting their favorites. His favorite kicks include the Air Jordan III, the Air trainer III and the Sneaker Freaker Blaze of Glory! They seem to show up a lot in some of his sneaker art. Not only does Daymon do highly acclaimed sneaker artwork but he also does gig and tour posters for musical artists, animation, illustrations, and random cartoon characters. All his work is portrayed in the digital world which gives him more of an influential beam towards me. I still sit to this day when he has a new piece trying to pick at all the little details he adds in his pieces just to try and get how he does it.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyvRrD-1jCWRQsZV8MwP1nDcKf6NiZsSPYNG65S3fa1rPZOIPTXm_7rEdkM6W1dBt_LNilMzcSOrY0mbLO5ZyTp6rEchn1DEnZxBdgbjhcgkTlP9kzeb40egTQZOdWk2PGuN108vvhX1qL/s1600-h/retrofuture.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; Capturing the spirit that survives in Lance, more than 20 artists donated their time and creativity to put across a message on behalf of LIVESTRONG, Armstrong’s foundation committed to inspiring and empowering people affected by cancer. With a strong debut in Paris, STAGES launched at Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery with a team of the world’s most accomplished and promising international artists, including Ed Ruscha, Cai-Guo Qiang, Richard Prince, Catherine Opie, KAWS, Eric White, José Parlá, Christopher Wool, Tom Sachs, Dzine, and Rosson Crow. The second part of their journey took place in New York City hosted by Deitch Projects where the team picked up four extra members with new works: the Os Gemeos twins, Futura and Dustin Yellin. The finale will take place at one of the art world’s biggest global events: Art Basel Miami Beach. To create an even louder voice for the LIVESTRONG message, STAGES calls in Los Angeles based Christian and Rob Clayton, aka the Clayton Brothers, the furious paintings from Erik Parker and the black and white portraiture genius of artist Tomoo Gokita for a high energy show full of talent and spirit. All artwork on display as part of STAGES will be available for purchase with proceeds directly benefiting LIVESTRONG.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXkqsCGZoGRxxWgcViAXCHYzf36ABMC1f4qjCXsFMat2VMLSQ8JuNXJIiBAyfk7AB5LWK3ytkyTFRim_ZC2tfl9KQERi-R94nFCD5_1Wbvqd_dcDf4ZZ4APNMmDX-d5v_qne8tNDa9_Zyf/s1600/yone-art-basel-miami-2009.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410387906195405954" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXkqsCGZoGRxxWgcViAXCHYzf36ABMC1f4qjCXsFMat2VMLSQ8JuNXJIiBAyfk7AB5LWK3ytkyTFRim_ZC2tfl9KQERi-R94nFCD5_1Wbvqd_dcDf4ZZ4APNMmDX-d5v_qne8tNDa9_Zyf/s400/yone-art-basel-miami-2009.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410387897577572738" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOAUD7qpVRDxSpLHbot151rgALkra-wNJz7k2-7nhF4TPEuKFSMTfGioGTmE1lMBCqS_wCGSkrW_ofVSUWN4gVMR4rntb2gVzxxlNFBeqkUta20EkMfp_6_P_WgqXE5XGEbqQ8JGvi68AG/s400/stages-miami-art-basel-1.jpg" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 297px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410387894230903698" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLZglVlmiNBM3KFDq1_2s-XF-LTrpJUEYsydkVnZcvIBueQJG-1sY1o4GLZrWMwifDEz0P313NvfTUIU0PbdXQ7Rt0_p1EfQQp2dT2RSdMbOlO1Dt3sM-8e1sPbcoky6Q42UrLVgZAxzmE/s400/stages-new-york.jpg" /><br /><strong>Contributing Artists:</strong><br />Cai Guo-Qiang, Rosson Crow, Jules De Balincourt, Dzine, Shepard Fairey, Futura, Andreas Gursky, KAWS, Geoff McFetridge, Yoshitomo Nara, Catherine Opie, Os Gemeos, José Parlá, Raymond Pettibon, Lari Pittman, Richard Prince, Ed Ruscha, Tom Sachs, Kenny Scharf, Eric White, Christopher Wool, Dustin Yellin, Aaron Young<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 266px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410387901169773490" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrCEOMu_vd3gUnudNhRK6cHhYdk5eRUGDkUIfBaGtILa5nTxsLzEw8n8Sfypy7h-Z3U2BfpuvzMYgEVDQv-4Wabv_CyP3khoadrGK_Qe1v-UK7IGdI9fbKKhTbqh0fKzx7VBuEcXI2TYS_/s400/bikes-of-stages-armory-6.jpg" /><br /><object width="400" height="300"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=7213166&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1"><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=7213166&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="300"></embed></object><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/7213166">Futura Interview</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user578511">Adam Bryce</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com/">Vimeo</a>.</p>Mark Stewarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16589472026512466342noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1381854023225026439.post-48924830658282764492009-11-19T18:50:00.000-08:002009-11-19T19:11:29.971-08:00K.R.E.A.M.New graphic piece I just finished a few days ago. "I'm not copying you. Your's is red and mine is maroon."<div>As an artist we all somehow want to protect our artwork once we put it out in the world, but in actual reality we definitely can't. We can do all these copyrights, trademarks, and whatnot to keep people from stealing their ideas. What some of us new upcoming artists don't understand is that our work is for the public. If you want to protect it you might as well make art in your own personal space and never let it reach the light of day. How do you think we are able to move from era to era of artwork? We study the previous era and try to do something different by modifying different techniques just a bit or extremely. SUPERFLEX's concept is in a way an explanation of my most recent piece "The World is my Gallery". I know that I want my work to be displayed for all the public to see. I dont want it to just be cramped up in the gallery for other artists and collectors to only see. I do upload some of my artwork on different social networking sites because that is one of my quickest ways of connecting to my true audience, everyone. I don't mind because I know that I am a bridge for other artists I may inspire to grow, as we all artists are. The sooner we realize that and stop trying to protect our pieces from people to get inspired by, the sooner we can start back up the era movements again. </div><br /><div></div>SUPERFLEX is a trio of Danish artists who explore the boundaries of an original piece and a direct copy. The artists played around with the best-known brands and trademarks to create their own logo, which ran the risk of many legal problems. Some of their pieces that have caught a lot of heat are:<br /><br />FREE BEER - An open source beer.<br /><br />Black spot sneakers - Anti corporate sneaker power.<br /><br />Guaraná Power - Soda trying to use global brands as raw material<br /><br />Mecca Cola - The clash of colas.<br /><br />Social Pudding - Copy pudding<br /><br />All of these pieces frame the concept of SUPERFLEX's vision "to challenge intellectual property."<br />Their motto that I love so much is "If Value, Then Copy". I love artists who actually tests these types of boundaries that are so sketchy to touch on. I guess I just have a love for guerilla artists because those are the people who are actually making the art that inspires me so much. They are basically at the top of the pedestal of controversial art playing with people's emotions, making people interact with their pieces. I so upset I didn't get to see them speak when they came here to Tyler because I would of had so much to ask, talk about, and get inspiration from them. AHHHHH I'm just getting that "stuck for words" feeling that I love getting when talking about an artist. I could go on and on about SUPERLEX, but you have to have a taste for guerilla art to appreciate them like I do. Just go to their site <a href="http://superflex.net/">http://superflex.net/</a>.<br /><br />Here's a video of one of their pieces that still has me in amazement.
